The full breadth of a family's financial life

One team, one standard of care — across investments, planning, estates, tax coordination and the generations to come.

Investment Management

At the centre of our work is the disciplined management of investment portfolios. Each portfolio begins not with a market view but with a conversation: what is this capital for, when will it be needed, and how much uncertainty can this family bear along the way? From those answers we construct an allocation across asset classes designed to meet the objective with no more risk than necessary.

Our approach favours quality, diversification and cost-consciousness. We rebalance with discipline rather than emotion, harvest tax losses where appropriate, and avoid strategies whose success depends on predicting the unpredictable. Every holding in a client portfolio is there for a reason we can explain in plain language.

Clients receive clear, consolidated reporting and meet with us regularly to review progress against their plan — not against a headline index that may bear little relation to their goals.

A global perspective on long-term investment

Financial Planning

A portfolio without a plan is simply a collection of assets. Our financial planning work gives that portfolio a purpose: we map the whole of a family's financial life — income, spending, assets, liabilities, insurance, entitlements and intentions — into a single coherent picture, and then test that picture against honest assumptions about the future.

The plan addresses the questions families actually ask. Can we retire when we hope to? Can we help the children buy a home without compromising our own security? What would happen if one of us could no longer work? What is the wisest order in which to draw on our accounts?

Because life rarely follows a projection, planning with us is not a one-time exercise. We revisit the plan as circumstances change — a sale of a business, a marriage, an inheritance, a diagnosis — so that decisions are always made against a current picture rather than an old one.

A calm setting for personal planning

Estate & Trust Coordination

A thoughtful estate plan is one of the most considerate gifts a family can leave behind. We work hand-in-hand with each family's estate attorneys to make sure the plan on paper matches the family's intentions — and, just as importantly, that the assets themselves are titled, designated and funded in a way that allows the documents to work as drafted.

Our role is coordination and continuity. We maintain the connection between the portfolio and the plan: confirming beneficiary designations agree with the wills and trusts, ensuring trusts that were created are actually funded, and flagging when births, deaths, marriages or changes in law suggest the documents deserve another look.

For families who serve as trustees, or who have asked corporate trustees to act, we provide investment management and reporting aligned to the specific duties and distribution standards each trust imposes.

Tax Planning Coordination

Taxes are one of the largest costs a family will bear over a lifetime of investing, and one of the most controllable. While we do not prepare returns or provide tax advice, we work closely with each family's accountants so that portfolio decisions and tax strategy reinforce one another rather than collide.

That coordination shows up in practical ways: locating assets in the accounts where they are taxed most gently, realising gains and losses with the whole tax picture in view, timing charitable gifts and retirement account distributions thoughtfully, and making sure no year-end opportunity expires unexamined.

Before each year end we review every taxable relationship alongside the family's tax professionals, so that April brings no surprises that November could have prevented.

Deeds and letters on the planning table

Retirement Planning

Retirement changes the question from "how do we grow?" to "how do we draw?" — and the second question is often harder. We help families design retirement income that is sustainable across what may be a thirty-year horizon, resilient in poor markets, and efficient with respect to tax.

The architecture is deliberate: near-term spending is insulated in reserves that do not depend on market prices; longer-term assets remain invested for the growth a long retirement requires; and withdrawals follow a considered sequence across account types, pensions and government benefits.

We then monitor the plan continuously. Spending, markets and health all evolve, and a retirement plan is only as good as its most recent review. Our clients know, year by year, whether they remain on course — and what adjustments, if any, prudence suggests.

Philanthropic Planning

For many of the families we serve, giving is among the most meaningful uses of their wealth. We help translate generous intentions into durable, well-structured philanthropy — clarifying what the family hopes to achieve, selecting the right vehicles, and integrating giving with the broader financial and estate plan.

Structure matters. Donor-advised funds, private foundations, charitable trusts and direct gifts each carry different implications for control, continuity, cost and tax. We help families weigh those trade-offs, and we coordinate the funding of gifts — often with appreciated securities rather than cash — so that generosity is also efficient.

Philanthropy is also one of the finest classrooms for the next generation. Many families use their giving as a way to involve children and grandchildren in decisions about values and money, and we are glad to help design that involvement.

Multi-Generational Wealth Planning

Sustaining wealth across generations is less an investment problem than a human one. Assets can be transferred in an afternoon; judgment, values and capability take years. Our multi-generational work prepares both the wealth for the family and the family for the wealth.

We help families think through the mechanics of transfer — timing, structures, and the balance between providing opportunity and preserving motivation — alongside the softer disciplines of family governance: regular family meetings, honest conversations about money, and written statements of what the wealth is for.

We also make a point of knowing the rising generation before they inherit. When the time comes, they are not handed a stranger along with their inheritance; they are continuing a relationship that began years earlier.

Family Office Services

Families with complex affairs often need more than investment advice: they need a quiet centre of administrative gravity. Our family office services provide consolidated oversight of a family's entire balance sheet — investment accounts, real property, private interests and liabilities — with reporting that lets the family see everything in one place.

We coordinate the professionals who surround the family — attorneys, accountants, insurance advisors, bankers — so that advice arrives joined-up rather than piecemeal, and so that nothing falls between the seams of separate engagements.

The result is fewer loose ends and more time. Bills of significance are anticipated, filings are calendared, documents are organised and retrievable, and the family principal is freed to make decisions rather than chase paperwork.

Business Succession Planning

For business-owning families, the enterprise is usually the largest asset on the balance sheet — and the least liquid, the most emotionally freighted, and the hardest to plan around. We help owners think through succession long before the moment of transition arrives, because the best outcomes are prepared years in advance.

The questions are seldom purely financial. Will the business pass to family, to management, or to an outside buyer? What does the owner need the proceeds to do — and what does the owner intend to do the day after closing? How should ownership and control be separated, if at all, among children with different levels of involvement?

We work alongside the family's legal and tax advisors, and where appropriate with transaction specialists, to align the succession plan with the estate plan and the investment plan — so that a lifetime of enterprise converts into enduring family security.

Risk Management

Wealth is lost more often to the unconsidered risk than to the poor investment. Our risk management work takes a deliberate inventory of what could genuinely harm a family — premature death, disability, liability, property loss, longevity, concentration — and ensures each exposure is either consciously accepted or sensibly addressed.

We review existing insurance arrangements for adequacy, overlap and cost, and we coordinate with insurance professionals when coverage should change. We are not compensated by any insurer, so our only interest is that the protection fits the need.

Within portfolios, risk management means diversification, liquidity appropriate to each family's commitments, and an honest reckoning with concentration — particularly the concentrated positions, often in a family business or long-held stock, that carry both financial weight and emotional history.
